Mid Lachlan Landcare and Universities
Mid Lachlan Landcare has conducted a range of successful events with university groups including:
- Yearly field-based tours to support content delivered in university courses
- Supporting postgraduate and undergraduate research projects
- Hosting professional practice students
Field based tours and site visits for university staff and students
MLL provides tours which cover a range of content in line with university courses. These tours include visits to working farms that demonstrate:
- Up to date, cutting-edge sustainable farming systems
- Landscape bio-physical processes
- Capacity building techniques
- Natural resource management issues and solutions
Supporting postgraduate and under graduate research projects
MLL has supported a range of research projects and has the ability to partner with universities and other locally based agencies to provide students with access to projects which are applied, relevant and needed in our local community.
Past projects include:
- Landscape assessment – soils, regolith and geology mapping at a paddock and farm scale, biodiversity studies
- Site assessment – soils, vegetation, landuse
- Hydrology and water quality assessment – on site and off site, farm and catchment scale
- Community surveys – current landuse, future plans, opinion of local opportunities
- Past projects have included research projects within course work, Honours, Masters and PhD level
Hosting professional practice students
MLL has provided opportunities for students undertaking professional practice or work experience. Participants gain an opportunity to see real community-based NRM in action. MLL works with other local government agencies to provide a range of experiences.
