Mid Lachlan Landcare is working with Central Tablelands Local Land Services on this great project from 2019 to 2023. It is wonderful to have this time to put into on-ground projects that will enhance and extend Box Gum Grassy Woodlands, leading to increased connectivity in the Central Tablelands region.
Funding has been provided for 2 great projects. With more planned for the 2020/21 year.
Site 1 – is a 5.5Ha remnant Box Gum Grassy Woodland site on the Lachlan River near Gooloogong. This project will involve the direct seeding of understory plants and also the planting of scattered paddock trees across the farm to further improve connectivity to the site and other surrounding remnant vegetation.
Site 2 – is at one of our known Squirrel Glider sites and has had 4 nest boxes installed over the last couple of years. These boxes are constantly being used. The project involves installing 10 new boxes across the area, planting out a tree lane that will connect the remnant used by the Gliders to another remnant within the farm. This will lead to further habitat the Gliders can utilise in the future. Within the tree lane understory species that Squirrel Gliders like will also be planted. In addition, individually guarded scattered paddock trees will be planted strategically to fill in vegetation gaps that make it hard for the Gliders to move through the landscape. This important site also connects up with Nanami Lane near Cargo.
Connectivity across our farming landscape is so important and often it is small on-ground works that can make a huge difference.
