On Saturday 22nd August fourteen local bird enthusiasts joined a guide from Birdlife Australia on the first of many bird walks planned around Cowra. A total of 23 species were recorded on the morning including Spotted pardalotes, Red Rumped Parrots, Red Wattle Birds, Superb Fairy Wrens, Yellow Faced honeyeater and Crimson Rosellas.

Guided bird walks like this are a great way to meet like-minded people and get to know your local birdlife. The walks are typically short with lots of time for everyone to catch up and look around.

It has been quite rainy and mild in Cowra this winter and as such everything was looking very lush and the wattles were out, including this amazing Acacia Vestita.

It’s quite likely that it’s one of a number of wattles planted by Cowra Woodland Bird Group back in 2005/2006 when they first got established. Back then they secured funding to improve bird habitat in this area so it’s great to see it thriving twenty years on!

All in all it was a fantastic morning and we thank Robyn (Cowra) and Ruth (Kangarooby Landcare) for organising such a lovely event.

Afterwards the walkers enjoyed some morning tea at Cowra’s Japanese Gardens.
