Last night we had a wonderful time opening the Land.Care exhibition at Cowra’s Little Magpie Gallery who was also celebrating their third birthday – hooray!
The exhibition will run until the 15th November and it’s well worth a look if you’re in Cowra in the coming weeks.

The exhibition features work from 25 exhibiting artists from across the Central West and from Canberra, Sydney, the Sunshine Coast and Narrabri, all of whom have responded to our call out for works that explored the theme of ‘art and science as powerful tools for discussing environmental issues’.
Inel from Little Magpie worked with our Landcare representative Ken from Cowra’s Micro Gallery to curate the show and both artists work is featured showcasing their different yet complimentary responses to the landscape surrounding us.
OPENING SPEECHES
I (Amanda – Landcare Coordinator) spoke about how art and science can be conceptualised as different tools we can use to engage, explore and make sense of our surrounds. Linking how we choose our ‘tool’ or approach to the stoic philosophical concept of free will that states “the only real choice we have in life is in how we respond”. I concluded that Landcare is a wonderful vessel within which we create space and set-aside time to nurture our relationship with ourselves, other people & the spaces we care deeply about. As a grass-roots organisation, Landcare thrives on the complexity and nuance existing within community. Like our landscape’s ecology, welcoming complexity and diversity of ideas and approaches is how we will all thrive!
Scott Hickman team leader of Mid Lachlan Landcare’s ‘Growing the Grazing Revolution’ program talked us through his relationship to the land and shared the ‘why’ behind his approach to agriculture. Scott’s passion for building soil and for the role ruminant animals play in farm ecology shone through as did his desire to continue building biodiversity on and around the farm.
We love seeing the Landscape through a creative lens and thoroughly enjoyed being part of this event. We wish all the artists well and encourage you all again to pop in and pick up an early Christmas present or two while you’re at it!
